PAGE 1

PANEL: We open with a view of Earth in space. A tiny, undetailed figure with a golden glow is approaching it. This is God as an alien invader.

NARRATION (as voiceover): “This is it. We finally got our alien invasion.”

PANEL: We switch to a street view in a city in the near future – something like Toronto or Metropolis (Superman). This panel focuses on some of the massive artillery set up in a downtown street, firing missile upon missile at an angle towards the alien invaders (off-panel).

Think of the artillery shots in kaijū movies and Evangelion.

NARRATION: “It’s really happening.”

PANEL: Continuing to think in terms of kaijū movies, we switch to a view of the city’s downtown at a fair distance, revealing a gigantic lady knight towering over it all. She should be about Godzilla size.

The knight is being ineffectually blasted by artillery from all sides as she looks out in the distance, seeming to admire the view while holding her sword nonthreateningly. She is facing away from us.

NARRATION: “It’s truly the end of us all.”

PANEL: We switch to a closer view as the knight raises her sword, preparing to slash horizontally at the artillery below. There is a kind smile on her face.

NARRATION: “To think so many of us are surprised at how familiar they look.”

PANEL: Continuing the view, the knight slices the street, her sword cutting across it and sending up chunks of road, artillery, buildings and anything else in its way. Her expression remains eerily benevolent.

NARRATION: “Civilizations had formed and fallen and been rebuilt to prepare us for this, and yet we’re still not ready.”

PAGE 2

1 PANEL: We switch to a view of the gigantic alien God as it floats down towards the city, facing us. The alien God is a baby with a golden glow and the face of an old man. It sits cross-legged with its right hand forming the sign of the cross and its left hand pointing to its heart with an open hand (its heart visible through a translucent patch of skin). Its expression is completely neutral.

We see artillery fire around the alien God as it calmly descends.

NARRATION: “How many warnings went unheeded? How many had been misinterpreted?”

2 PANEL: We switch to a side view, with the knight facing left and the alien God in the sky on the right, coming down at an angle.

NARRATION: “Even so, what could we have done?”

3 PANEL: Close-up of the knight in profile as she looks up at the alien God (off-panel) with her warm smile. Missiles whip past her head at an angle, heading towards the alien God.

NARRATION: “It’s over.”

4 PANEL: Close-up of the alien God in profile as he continues lowering, his expression remaining neutral. The same missiles from the previous panel now whip past the alien God, missing it.

NARRATION: “But that’s okay.”

5 PANEL: We return to the same view as the first panel of Page 1, only now the Earth has been split in half, its right half shifted downwards to make the cut clear.

1001 Knights - Unheeded Warnings

Some time ago I had a pleasure creating this short story with Josh Tierney for the third volume of 1001 Knights.
